United they stand

Local community group heavyweights Friends of Lake Weyba, the Sunshine Coast Environment Council and Noosa Parks Association have banded together to form an alliance to support the Noosa and Sunshine Coast Councils’ defence in the Planning and Environment Court of the Appeal by the developer of the proposed by the “Noosa on Weyba” project.

The proposal by Godfrey Mantle’s Northbrook Corporation was widely condemned by the community, and comprehensively rejected by both Councils .

“For the developer to appeal this resounding refusal”, said Friends of Lake Weyba President, Anita Brake, “shows that they have no regard for the environment, our community and our values. It’s simply a case of trying to bully the community via the Court system.  Well, we won’t be bullied- we will stand by the views of over 1000 objections lodged by the local community and the decisions of our Councils! ”

A fighting fund is being set up to finance community representation in this legal process.  All three groups will be  seeking that their members and members of the wider community stand up for Lake Weyba  by making donations to the fighting fund.

“By nominating as co-respondents, this alliance of community groups will ensure they are active parties in the appeal process.” Narelle McCarthy spokesperson for the Sunshine Coast Environment Council explained, “It is vital the community is represented and supports our local Councils on this significant matter.”
