WEYBA ART: Bianca Tainsh with Robyn Fox`s work Once Was Home

LAKE Weyba has long been an inspiration for the artistic community.

This week Friends of Lake Weyba are staging Arts-on- Weyba, a creative experience showcasing the essence of an area remarkable as the source of inspiration for a collection of artistic works.

The group’s aim is to bring an awareness to the area proposed for an urban development, which they predict will have dire effects.

Visual artist Bianca Tainsh will curate the five days of art shows and workshops.

“The Arts-on-Weyba art exhibition will feature painting, sculpture, video, drawing, installation and botanical art forms, from emerging and established artists,” she said.

Bianca, who moved to Melbourne to further her own art studies, has been creating the events online, but now she is home and eager to portray a part of the artistic history that commenced when her grandparents, artist Alice Tainsh and screenwriter and cartoonist Doug Tainsh moved from Melbourne to Lake Weyba in the 1970s.

“They had many artists come and visit here,” Bianca recalled.

“And so we have numerous artworks from that time which will be on display.

“But we will also be showing more contemporary work.”

The renowned Hal Barton is one such artist and another is Elizabeth Poole. Bianca said everyone is welcome to participate in the event.
